Partizanka Burned

The Jugoslav Government liner Partizanka, which visited Auckland a year ago to take Jugoslav nationals home, is not likely to make another trip for some time. Soon after her arrival at the port of Split, in Dalmatia, she was damaged by a fire which destroyed practically everything except her engines. She was saved from sinking only by the prompt action of her crew, who prevented the fire from reaching the engine room. Mr S. Mrkusich, of Auckland. who has returned after spending two years in Jugoslavia, said he saw the Partizanka lying damaged in Split harbour. The ship was in dock when the fire occurred, but the reason for the outbreak, if it was discovered was not communicated to the public. In fact, the fire was not reported in the Jugoslav press, he added. Although he believed that the Partizanka would be repaired, the work had not been started when last he heard about the vessel
