HARDSTAFF’S STATUS AS CRICKETER
NOTTS QUALIFICATION IN
DANGER
(New Zeaiana Press Association)
AUCKLAND, January 31. J. Hardstaff, the Auckland professional cricket coach, must not play for Auckland again, otherwise his Qualifications for Nottinghamshire will be broken. This advice was received by cablegram from the Nottinghamshire County at this evening’s meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association.
Reference was also made to the playing of Hardstaff in a letter from the New, Zealand Cricket Council, which quoted a cablegram from the M.C.C. stating that county rules debarred players from playing both for a British Dominion or State and for an English county in the same calendar year. The. Auckland province appeared to be a state within the intention of the rule. The Nottinghamshire Club should be consulted as the party primarily concerned.
The letter from the council added that if the Auckland Association wished to take the matter further it seemed the best plan would be*. for the committee to consult the Nottinghamshire Club for its opinion. It was decided to advise the Nottinghamshire Club there had been plenty of precedent for English coaches playing for their provinces in New Zealand.
