PUBLIC WORKS AT TIMARU
“YEARS AND YEARS OVERDUE” •
•Timaru was being consistently overlooked and promises made by Ministers of the Crown in the past regarding works within the city boundary had not been kept, said the Mayor (Mr A. E. S. Hanan) at a meeting of the Timaru City Council last night. "We have been promised an overhead traffic bridge for some years, but nothing has happened so far,” said Mr Hanan. “We cannot progress on promises. Admittedly we can carry out work by our own enterprise, but it is up to the Government to help us m many ways. I think that we have been in a backwash in the past. Some public works are years and years overdue.” « On the suggestion of the Mayor it was agreed that the full council should meet the Minister of Works (Mr W. S. Goosman) when he visited Timaru. It was emphasised that the State construction work planned for the city should be brought' to the Minister’s notice, with a request that the overhead- traffic bridge at the railway yards be made a number one priority.
