CATHEDRAL SQUARE
Sir,- —Surely the old folk can sit in the Godley plot and enjoy the sun and see the people pass by, which is very interesting, and talk with their friends in their old age. I have seen many a husband and wife there with their children playing about and enjoying themselves. I have also seen visitors sit there and enjoy it. Give the old folk a chance to enjoy that spot in their old age.—Yours, etc., CHRISTIAN LOVE. January 30. 1950.
Sir, —Your correspondent “Wake Up Christchurch” has placed his viewpoint before your readers. Before the centennial celebrations commence, with, a shower of crackers from Hagley Park to start the ball rolling, into Cathedral square, a little spring cleaning, before the celebrities arrive, might create a brighter atmosphere, starting from the depressing, drab, out-of-date Christchurch railway station towards Cathedral square. Why should the Auckland railway station be so palatial in comparison with the dowdy-looking railway station in Christchurch? No doubt, the Prime Minister 'Mr S. G. Holland) knows the reason why Christchurch appears to have taken second place during the last 14 years. A removal of the Cathedral square taxi stands to their office depot, might clear the congested thoroughfare at times.—Yours, etc., PUBLIC OPINION. January 30, 1950.
