ACCOMMODATION AND SERVICES

LICENSING COMMISSION’S REQUIREMENTS

The standards of hotel accommodation and services insisted upon by the Licensing Control Commission are given in a schedule attached to the decision on licensing in the Taupo district. Requirements are those which must be met in rebuilding the Spa Hotel, ordered by the commission. The standards, which are those for a three-star hotel, are: Premises shall be equipped and so constructed to comply with New Zealand egress code; all bedrooms shall be equipped with hand-basins and hot and cold water; all bedrooms shall be equipped (inter alia) with adequate lighting, including reading lights for beds.

One bathroom and one separate shower box, to be approved by the health and/or local body authorities and by the licensing committee for the first eight guests, and thereafter one bathroom and/or shower in the proportion of one to every additional eight guests for whom there is accommodation in the premises and for whom private bathrooms are not available.

There shall be separate lavatory accommodation for each sex and separate from bathrooms, except in any private bathroom. Such lavatories to be approved by the health and/or local body authorities and licensing committee, and to be at the rate of one closet for each sex for the first eight guests. Thereafter there shall be adequate lavatory accommodation, but not less than in proportion of one closet for each additional eight guests for whom private toilets are not available.

Meals shall be of a standard necessary to comply with the grading of. the hotel as decided by the commission. All food shall be good and wholesome. properly cooked and tastefully served. Menus for all meals shall be varied and provide reasonable choice for guests. (The licensing committee will be instructed to obtain at intervals copies of menus and to report to the commission jf

meals fall below a standard regarded by the licensing committee as desirable, or nut in accordance with the fixed standard.)

Equipment and furnishings for bedrooms shall be in accordance with the grading of the hotel as decided by the commission. Central heating shall be provided, if required by the licensing committee. The licensee shall provide an adequate bar service for 9 serving of liquor. Adequate and proper cleaning facilities for cleaning glasses with running hot w*ater of a temperature of not less than 170 deg. F. shall be installed in every bar in accordance with the directions of the licensing committee and the Health Department. Bars shall be-at all times kept clean and tidy. The floor covering shall be of impervious material, and shall be thoroughly cleaned with hot water and soap at leas' once daily. Specific standards and requirements are:

Bedrooms. Superior furnishings and tasteful curtains. Shelf or cabinet for toilet requisites, clean towels daily, proper cleaning of shoes. Bedding.—High grade quality mattresses, clean linen in good repair; adequate number of blankets, quilt or eiderdown. Furniture.—Dressing table with drawers, wardrobe or built-in wardrobe, chair (two in double room), bedside table, luggage rack or stand Lounges.—Airy lounge well ventilated. There should be one seat a person for maximum of guests who stay in the house. Carpet wall to wall. Tasteful curtains. Adequate lighting with provision for reading lamps. Satisfactory heating to be approved by the licensing committee.
