AIR CRASHES IN U.S.
NEW YORK, December 23. An Air Force bomber crashed into a rice paddy near Savannah, Georgia, last night. All the 11 members of the crew were killed. The aeroplane was observed in flames in the air before the crash. Rescue squads found the aeroplane buried in the mire, with flames shooting" hundreds of feet into the air. The machine was a four-engined 850 on a training flight from Georgia to Texas. The wreckage of two private aeroplanes which had been missing for several days was found to-day. The bodies of three construction engineers were found in the wreckage of one aeroplane which crashed near McKinney. Texas. The second private aeroplane was found Wrecked in hills near St. George, Utah. The pilot’s body was found nearby. A third private aeroplane crashed near Atoka. Oklahoma, on Wednesday, killing the pilot. Woman Climbs Television Tower. — A 25-year-old woman climbed unaided 330 feet up a television tower at Norfolk. Virginia, last night, but fainted when being brought down, lashed to the back of a policeman. Barefoot and clad in slacks and a jacket. Mrs Mary Shaffer paused 70 feet from the top of the tower. Two policemen, watched by a rapidly growing crowd, ascended the tower and brought the woman down. The police charged Mrs Shaffer with disorderly conduct. She did not- give the reason for her action.—New York, December 25.
