WOMEN’S VOTES
Sir, —I wonder if *‘A Mere Woman” knows what she is talking about when she starts talking in millions of pounds? As for the Labour Government wasting millions of pounds, she is overreaching herself a little. If her statement were true New Zealand would be bankrupt instead of flourishing. As for her prediction that a Labour Government will never go back op. the Treasury benches, she should wait three years and see. It may not take thr.ee years for the people to wake up and find out when they were well off.—Yours, etc., MERE MAN. Hokitika, December 22, 1949.
Sir, —With its closed economy the last Government brought unprecedented prosperity to employers and workers, who have failed deplorably in the quality and variety of expensive goods produced. The last Government cannot be blamed for their beneficiaries’ cupidity. Now we sigh for the better things of other lands. Beyond my ken are the alleged squandered millions of pounds, and the army of unnecessary individuals. No New Zealand Government has yet solved the sex-crime problem. Grundyism would stalk if the logical way out was even hinted.' To H. M. Smith—internal warloans financed the recent war and heavy taxation assisted the socialistic regime. Farmers’ produce sold abroad helps repay our overseas loans. “Amused” is facetious. The retention of social services and not socialistic domination is what Mr Holland has promised.—Yours, etc., E.W.T. December 26, 1949.
