FOREST FIRE DANGER
WARNING GIVEN BY MINISTER (New Zealand Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 22. “Although weather conditions over the holiday season cannot be predicted it is certain that many localities will be subject to considerable fire risk and if Dominion-wide dry conditions exist, this risk will be accentuated,” said the Minister of Forests (Mr E. B. Corbett) to-day. ‘‘By risk of fire, I mean simply that a cigarette butt flicked out of a car window, a lighted match dropped on the ground, or a billy fire left burning may start a forest fire endangering life and property.” added the Minister. “My forest officers have told me that year by year thq public is showing greater awareness of fire risk and cooperating more fully in the campaign to save New Zealand's native forests and exotic plantations. During my term of office I am looking forward to an even greater spirit of co-operation by the public in protecting obr forests and I am hoping that it will be possible for greater recreational use to be ipade of our glorious mountain forests.”
