May Drive at Melbourne G. S. Smith, who has not driven in races in New Zealand for more than 12 months, may drive Baby Grand in his races at the Inter-Dominion Championships at Adelaide in February. Going to Australia A yearling colt by Dillon Hall from Merton has been sold by Mrs M. W. Pierce, of Winton, to an Australian studmaster, and he is to be shipped on the Waitaki this week. The colt has been purchased by Mr F. Parker, of the Cathcart Stud (South Australia), and it is intended to use him as a sire. His dam, Merton, was a Jack Potts mare from Regal Lady, by Wrack, from Wild Nila (the dam of Dark Hazard), by Logan Pointer from Wild Queen, and tracing back to Regina, which founded a fine family of winners in the south. Mrs M. W. Pierce is represented by Battle Royal at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting on Boxing Day. One of I. H. Herberts team, Battle Royal is a four-year-old gelding by Light Brigade from Regal Lady.
