TRACK WORK AT ADDINGTON

TROTTING

MAORI HOME IN FORM Maori Home, which is one of the favourites for the Canterbury Handicap, the main event at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on December 31, showed that he is near the peak of his form by the manner in which he paced over a mile and a half at Addington yesterday morning in 3mm 21sec, the last naif mile taking Imin ssec. Gantree set the pace for the first five furlongs, and Maori Home then took the lead. Pacing in his best style, Maori Home sprinted the last two furlongs in 33 4-ssec. The run-ner-up to Commander Scott in the National Handicap at Addington on September 3, Maori Home should win at least one race at the Canterbury Park meeting. Gantree, which looks well, gave a solid display. He should soon regain his best form. Sowden Beck gave a good performance to finish close up, after trailing Maori Home and Gantree all the way. The first time she races up to the form she shows in training, Sowden Beck should win a race for C. H. Turner, who is training her at Addington. The weather was fine, and the track was in good order. As th*e trestles were out, all work was done about nine feet from the rails. A strong easterly wind prevented fast times from being registered. Consistent Systematic was too good for Quite Happy at the end of a mile and a half in 3min 32sec, the last half mile taking Imin 5 2-ssec. A consistent performer, Systematic may win the Boxing Day Handicap at" the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting on Boxing Day. Tekau and Monty Jason sprinted the last four furlongs of their trial in Imin 4sec. Tekau, which set the pace, took 3min 30sec. ' Gretna Green and Shy Sonoma covered a mile and a half in, 3min 34sec, the last half mile in Imin 5 2-ssec. Racing at Westport Hilda Scott attracted attention to her prospects in the main-events at the Westport Trotting Club’s meeting on Boxing Day, when she worked over two miles in company with Lady Mavourneen. They finished together after covering the last mile and a half in 3min 24 l-ssec, the last half mile taking Imin ssec. Lady Mavourneen, the runner-up to Mobile Globe in 3min 16 4-ssec in the Empire Handicap at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting on December 10, should race well from the 12 yards mark in the Midsummer Handicap at Ashburton. Our Babe, Loyal Eagle, and Talua finished together after covering the last half mile of their mile and a quarter trial in Imin 8 3-ssec.

Terrytoon set the pace when working oyer two miles with Sure Charge in 4min 49 4-ssec, the last half mile in Imin 9 4-ssec. Blue Print, which gave them three seconds start, was close up at the finish. Duncraig shaded Tutta Bella at the end ot a mile and a half in 3min 25sec, the last half mile taking Imin 4sec. They should both race well at the Canterbury Park meeting. ' Trotted Solidly Lucky Bill and Waroonga, which are b ° tb Thomas’s stable, pleased by their efforts. A four-year-old gelding. Sir Josedale is trained at New Brighton by S. R. Messervy, who races him in partnership with Mr- R. L Ashcroft. Early Favouritu -The early favourite for the Winton Three-year-old Stakes, the first Southland juvenile race of the season, is the Springf leld £!® be gelding, Spring View. He has had little racing experience, but he has impressed greatly in what he has done. Spring View will not lack anything on the score of condition, and if he raced up to the form he showed at the recent barrier trials at Invercargill, he would be hard to beat. Spring View is a halfbrother to the Tapanui winner, Gunsmoke, but he is built on much more generous lines, and is a bold striding pacer with it. He races in the same interests as Duncraig, which is in V. Alborn’s stable at Addington. Visitor from Adelaide Mr F. Reiss, who owns the Brahma Stud at Adelaide, will arrive in Auckland tomorrow. After seeing the £5OOO Auckland Trotting Cup on Tuesday, Mr Reiss will accompany the president of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, Mr A. Matson, on his visit to the Greymouth Trotting Club’s jubilee meeting on January 5 and 7. Above the Average Victory Song showed that she is above the average when, at her only start, she won the first division of the Cronadun Handicap at Reefton by 60 yards from Imperial Trust in 3min 26sec. An aged mare, Victory Song, which is trained at Addington by F. G. Holmes, Who races her in partnership with Mr G. Aitcheson, is by Light Brigade from Fay Grattan, which left other winners in Calando to Dillon Hall, and Zantileer to Springfield Globe. On Reef ton form, Victory Song will probably be sent out favourite for the Wakanui Handicap at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting on Boxing Day. A. 11. Gourlay Injured A. H. Gourlay, who was tipped from the sulky when Aristocrat was involved in the mix-up which occurred when Sunshine Girl fell :n the 3min 29sec class pace at the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association’s trials at New Brighton on Tuesday, was admitted to hospital on Wednesday suffering from an injury to his neck. After the accident. Gourlay complained of having a stiff neck. When he was examined on Wednesday, it was discovered that a small bone had been broken. In Form Gay Belwin’s record of two wins and a second in his four starts this season includes a stylish effort at his last start to beat Neonapolis by three lengths after leading all the way in the Green Lane Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on October 24. A high-class trotter in the making. Gay Belwin may add to his record in the Selby Handicap at Epsom on December 27. Driver For Acclamation

Unless R. Young can make arrangements to fly to Auckland after the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting, he will be unable to drive on Boxing Day. In his absence. Acclamation, which is one of the favourites for the Ashburton Trotting Cup, will be driven by J. Behms. By Jack Potts Gay Chanter, which will make her debut in the New Zealand Champion Stakes at Ashburton on Monday, is trained at Oamaru by J. M. Bain, who races her in partnership with Mr E. J. August. A neat filly. Gay Chanter, which has something of a private reputation, is by Jack Potts from Tatsy Volo, by Lusty Volo from Tatsy de Oro, by Rey de Orb from a Prince Imperial mare. Reminder
