TRINITY COLLEGE AWARDS

I Sir,—Having listened attentively to the remarks of Dr. Reginald Cooper at the Trinity College concert and presentation of medals this evening, I feel impelled to ask at what age the Trinity College expects candidates to interpret music with sincerity and imagination? Although he did not mention the relevancy of age, he referred to the lack of the above qualities, and performances being “murdered.” Writing as a parent whose children have sat many examinations of Trinity College, I do not expect from them in anything, including music, an understanding beyond the capacity of their years. I will be amply rewarded if their years of practice and study bring forth the power to “interpret music with sincerity and imagination” in adult life. —Yours, etc., MUSIC LOVER. December 21. 1949.
