CULTURAL SOCIETY

ANNUAL CONVERSAZIONE

The Christchurch Cultural Society has completed a successful year, during which its membership has grown, its programmes have improved, and interest in its activities has doubled. To mark the end of the session, a pleasant conversazione was held last night at the Winter Garden, where, the floral decorations arranged for the occasion were beautiful. The president (Dr. G. Jobberns) presided. The following entertaining programme was presented:—three songs were sung by Trevor Ritchie, Vera Martin sang four gipsy songs; sn instrumental quartet was played by Hilary Eccles and Ray Burnard (violins), Alice Stubberfleld /piano), and Harry Stone (’cello); Anita Ritchie sang two groups of songs by New Zealand composers—one by S. Wainwright Morgan, and the other by John Ritchie: Winston Sharp sang four old English songs, and Mrs Enid Frye contributed" monologues from Dickens. Added variety was introduced by the presentation of two sketches. Those taking part in the first were Mrs E. Brandt. Messrs R. Bell, W. Hobbs, E. Johnston, and A. Cameron, and the second was played by Mr Hobbs and Mr Bell. The accompanists were Mrs E, J. McEachen, Miss Betty Hannam, Mrs J. C. Cullman, and Mrs Winston Sharp.
