TAULOCH MAY NOT RACE AGAIN
BRILLIANT RACEHORSE Tauloch, Mr W. S. Goosman’s re-cord-breaking colt, pulled up very sore after running unplaced with topweight in the Ponui Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday, and although no definite decision has been made, his trainer, F. Smith, said it was unlikely that he would race again. Tauloch. a four-year-old (by Bal-loch-Taupiri), proved himself in two seasons’ racing to be one of the most brilliant horses to race in New Zealand. As a two-year-old he started 10 times, winning five races, including the A.R.C. Welcome Stakes, Avondale Stakes, Great Northern Foal Stakes, and the Royal Stakes, his winnings for the season amounting to £4850.
In the next season Tauloch started 16 times for 10 wins, a second, two thirds, and a fourth. His most important wins wdre the Avondale Guineas, Great Northern Guineas, Wellington Guineas, C.J.C. Churchill Stakes. King’s Plate. Great Northern Derby. Gloaming Stakes, New Zealand St. Leger. and Great Northern St. Leger. Tauloch’s stake earnings last season were £13,475. a record for a three-year-old in New Zealand.
