“DEEP CRISIS” IN BULGARIA
JUGOSLAV OFFICIAL'S REPORT TREASON TRIAL BEING PLANNED (Rec. 8 p.m.) BELGRADE. 'October 15. Bulgaria was “passing through a deep crisis,” and the Cominform was about to stage another treason trial, with Traicho Kostov, a former Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister, as the chief defendant, said ’Mr Ivan Karaivanov. director of the Jugoslav Foreign Office Institute for International Policy, in an article in the Communist Party’s newspaper, “Eorba.” * • . Mr Karaivanov said that the Bulgarian security police had already carried out mass arrests. Eight more members of the central committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party were in prison. The trial of Kostov’ was intended to intimidate Bulgarian malcontents, including Tito sympathisers. “of whom there are no small number.” Mr Karaivanov said that numbers of Tito sympathisers would be connected with Kostov's trial, and would be “accused of everything.”
