EZZARD CHARLES BEATS VALENTINO
(Rec. 10 p.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, October 15.
Ezzard Charles knocked out Pat Valentino in the eighth round of a scheduled 15-round bout to-night to defend successfully the National Boxing Association’s heavy-weight title. Valentino forced the pace early, but Charles had complete control after the third round. He sent Valentino crashing to the canvas with a fierce right to the jaw 35 seconds after the opening of the eighth round. Valentino tried to fise, but fell back as the referee finished the full count.
A crowd estimated at 20,000 watched the fight. Charles weighed 1821 b and Valentino 188|lb.
