NEW AIRWAYS POST
ENGINEER FROM EIRE APPOINTED The chief project engineer of Aerimte Eireann. the Irish company formed to operate a trans-Atlantic service from Eire to New York with Lockheed Constellation aircraft, has been appointed to the new position of superintendent engineer to the New ZeaNatj(,nal Airways Corporation. He is Mr C. W. Labette, who will come to New Zealand as a passenger on the Awatere, the second of the new Solent flying-boats for Tasman Empire Airways. which will leave England for Auckland this week. Mr Labette, who will be stationed at the corporation's head office in Wellington, liar, spent several weeks in Britain since his appointment* visiting aircraft factories to obtain knowledge of the latest types of aircraft now being produced. Before joining Aerlinte Eireann he spent eight years as assistant to the chief project engineer of Vickers-Armstrong. Ltd. Mr Labette is an associate fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, and has had experience of varied typos of aircraft, in- | eluding flying-boats and the Lockheed Constellation.
