ißec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 14. The United Nations Trusteeship Committee to-day asked the General
mit, within a year, details of what they were planning to do to bring about either lhe self-government or the independence of their territories as soon as possible.
The committee approved the resolution against the objections of all administering authorities by 24 votes to 10. with 11 abstentions.
Youth Drives Over Cliff.— A youth committed suicide at Newcastle last night by driving a utility truck at 70 miles an hour over a 120 ft cliff. He was Neville Chiplin, aged 19. His badly broken body was recovered from a mass of wreckage on the rocks below a few minutes before the rising, tide covered the ledge.—Sydney, October 15.
Old African Sheik Dies.—One of Tanganyika’s most colourful personalities, Sheik Ali Bin Said, who claimed to be 110 years old, died last night within a few hours of returning from a pilgrimage to Mecca. Sheik Ali was present at the meeting between Stanley and Livingstone at Ujiji in 1871.—Dars Es Salaam, October 14.
