SOVIET-JUGOSLAV QUARREL
Extension To U.N. SECURITY COUNCIL ELECTION (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (R ec. 9 ' 2 5 > NEW YORK. Oct. 13. The Soviet bloc in the United Nations to-night made a serious diplomatic issue out of United States efforts to have Jugoslavia elected to the Security Council. *} ve Communist nations sent identical Notes to all the United Nations delegations calling for the election of Czechoslovakia.
A non-Communist European source said. that this formal communication in diplomatic style indicated the serious view Russia would take if Jugoslavia won a seat on the Council. It might lead to unforeseen events. Jugoslavia has carried its cold war with the Soviet a step further. The Deputy Foreign Minister (Dr. Ales Bebler) has complained to the Secre-tary-General' of the United Nations (Mr Trygve Lie) that certain Soviet members of the United Nations staff have been campaigning against Jugoslavia's election.
Reuter says that a Russian representative, Mr Constantin Zinchenko, is reported to have warned Mr Lie that Russia would be forced to walk out of the United Nations if Jugoslavia was elected.
