RETIREMENT OF MR A. A. CHESHIRE
MANAGER OF SUMNER GASWORKS Mr A. A. Cheshire, who joined the staff of the Su.nner Borougn Council ;n 1918, retired yesterday irom the position oi manager oi tne Sumner g.svvorks ana engineer lor the Sumner electricity and water department, ne was met by his s<«aif ana members and fok-aier memoers of ide Christchurch G-'ity <_'ou«cn and of oia &»umnexBoro’^ o h Council. Mr H. S. Feast, i'own Clerk, was chairman. Cr. J. E. Tait referred to Mr Cheshire’s services and presented him with a chiming clock irom the staff and friendfe. He aiso presented a spray to Mrs Cheshire. Other speakers were Cr. W. B. Owen, Mr W. J. Duff, Mr A. H. Jocks (representing Mr E. Somers, City Engineer), Mr J. O’Neill (local foreman), and Miss McDougall (City Council office). Mr Cheshire took up the position of gasworks manager in 1918 and later supervised the installation of the electric power lines and the extension of the water reticulation. He also took part in many local affairs. Mr Cheshire is a past president of the Sumner Bo a ling Club and a keen goiter. He will continue to live in Sumner.
