ASHBURTON LADIES’ CHOIR

Sir, —I have just read the account of the Ashburton Ladies’ Choir. [ have been brought up from childhood to appreciate good music, and to me the whole evening was a perfect joy. The singing was beautiful, and of a quiet (if I may use that word) dignity and gracefulness that are really seldom heard now. The conductin ’, was a restful change after the usual sight of a baton and the conductor doing gymnastics. The whole account seems a series of small pin-prickings, and has for me taken some of the bloom from an otherwise perfect evening’s pleasure.—Yours, etc.. E.M.B. September 30‘, 1949.
