BOXING

KAPEEN BEATS KELLY (New Zealand Press Association.)

AUCKLAND. Sept. 20. The Australian welter-weight boxer, George Kapeen, beat the New Zealand light-weight champion, Percy Kelly, on a technical knock-out in the sixth round of a scheduled 10-round catch-weight contest in the Town Hall this evening. At 20. Kapeen was 12 years younger than Kelly, and at lOst 4Jlb he nad a weight advantage of 9Jlb. He was taller and had an advantage in reach.

Kelly’s left eye was badly gashed in the fourth round. At the end of the sixth round, the doctor ruled him unfit to continue.

Francis Joseph, of Fiji, scored his fourth win in five fights in New Zealand by knocking out Phil Adam, of Wanganui, in the first of a scheduled six-round bout Joseph -weighed lOst 71b and Adam lOst 61b. Phil Wallace, of Auckland, had his second win in two professional fights when he beat Peter Cochrane, of Auckland, on points over six rounds. Wallace weighed list sJlb and Cochrane list 61b.
