BORLAND’S HIGH JUMP RECORD RECOGNISED (New Zealand Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 7. The New Zealand high jump record of 6ft 3sin, established by J. H. Borland (Canterbury), at Christchurch, on January 24, 1948, has been officially recognised by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. This was decided by the management committee last evening. Recognition of the record had been delayed because of uncertainty about the effect of the wind. MCKENLEY-LA BEACH TOUR PROFIT WELLINGTON, September 7. The New Zealand tour of Lloyd La Beach and Herb McKenley early this year showed a profit of £355 16s 6d. This was reported at a meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. This profit was distributed to the centres as follows: Auckland £lO9 16s sd, Wellington £132 19s lid, Canterbury £44 13s 9d, and Otago £6B 6s sd. The committee was told that the loss on the tour of the Australian athletic team would probably be about £550. CANADIAN ATHLETES MAY TOUR N.Z. AUCKLAND. September 7. Canadian athletes competing at the Empire Games in Auckland from February 4 to 11 are likely to make appearances in other centres of New Zealand and in Australia. Major J. W. Davies, secretary of the British Empire Games Association of Canada, has notified the organising committee of the Games that the 62 competitors and 10 officials likely to be sent to the Games would not leave Auckland to return to Vancouver until April 4.
