NEW LECTURER IN SCULPTURE

♦ WIDE EXPERIENCE IN BRITAIN A prominent British sculptor. Mr Henry Eric John Doudney, has been appointed senior lecturer in sculpture at the Canterbury University College School of Art. He is a

yellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptures and a member of its council a Fellow of the Koval Society of Arts, and a member of the Society of Industrial Artists. Mr Doudney studied at the Richmond School of Art. Roval Academy of Art. and City and Guilds of London Institute. As a senior student he

wen many awards for modelling and design, including a travelling scholarship of the City and Guilds of London Institute which took him to Egypt, Palestine, Greece, Italy, and France. In 1935 he won first premium in an Em-pire-wide competition for designing the equestrian statue of General Sir John Monash in Melbourne. In 1929 he was selected by the Koval Society of British Sculptors to assist Mr Paul B. Montford with the Victorian Peace Memorial in Melbourne. He returned to Britain in 1931 to enter private practice, which included a great deal or set designing tor British film studios. In 1936 and 1939 he taught at the Twickenham Technical College and School of Art During World War II Mr Doudney became a designer and draughtsman for Hawker Aircraft. Ltd., and was engaged on designs for the Hurricane. Typhoon, and Tempest aircraft. In 1946 he was released to become industrial designer for Halex. Ltd., a subsidiary of British Xylonite. Ltd. He is now chief designer and adviser on colour control in the firm. He has also studied plastics and light metals. Mr Doudney recently visited France. Belgium. Switzerland. Italy. Holland. and Sweden to study developments and needs there. He has exhibited at the Royal Academy and in many provincial galleries and has written'many papers. Mrs Doudney is a graduate of the university of London. They have two boys aged seven and five.
