SCHEME FOR 90 SECTIONS

o NEW SUBDIVISION AT SPREYDON

LOAN PROPOSAL BY COUNCIL

“It is hoped that a number of blocks will eventually be developed, the proceeds from each area to be applied towards a further area so long as land is available and the demand for sections exists,” said the housing committee, recommending to the City Council last evening that a loan for land development purposes in a subdivision of back-land at Spreydon be applied for. The recommendation was adopted.

The block of 20 acres will provide about 90 building sections. The area is bounded by Lyttelton, Barrington. Neville, and Cobham streets. The subdivision provides for new roads from Barrington street to Cobham street, with a length of 46 chains.

Objections to the purchase of land were received from nine of the 30 property holders in the original subdivisional scheme, which was amended to eliminate seven of the objectors. The committee reported that it was possible to reduce the scheme without increasing the cost of a section. The council decided to give public notice of its intention to consider a motion to make application for the raising of a loan for £20,000 for the purchase of the land.
