Mr Lies budget was strongly criticised by the standing committee of budgetary experts, which operates independently of the Secretariat. The recommended a cut of 1,786,750 dollars, and said that it noted a persistent and dangerous trend” by which some highly placed members c,f M r £ ie s staff were building oversized, self-contained administrative machines round themselves. The committee added that the need for streamlining was important because of the increasing currency difficulties of United Nations members. FIVE PERSONS DEAD N.S.W. MOTOR ACCIDENT SYDNEY, August 22.
