KAIKOURA CLUB’S TOURNAMENT The Kaikoura Sports Club opened its 1949 season on Saturday evening with a successful wrestling tournament. The referees were Messrs T. Fahey and T. Donovan (Christchurch). In a professional heavy-weight match, of five five-minute rounds, J. Pullman (Christchurch), 15st lib, beat J. Tapley (Timaru), 14st 31b, by one fall obtained in the fourth round. Amateur preliminaries resulted:—ban-tam-weight: L. J. Keats (New’ Zealand champion), Bst 51b, beat M. Robertson, Bst 101 b, by one fall. Feather-weight: D. Boskell, 9st 41b, beat H. Kerr, 9st 61b, by one fall. Light heavy-weight: W. Musson. 13st lib, drew with K. Hardwick, 13st 51b, one fall each. Heavy-weight: H. Pitama, 17st 81b, drew with Rex Cook, 15st 121 b, no falls. Middle-weight: J. Mclnnes, 12st 121 b, beat A. Atkinson, 12st 101 b, by a submission fall. Light heavy-weight: J. Howard, 12st 131 b, beat P. Long, 12st 51b, who was disqualified. MCCREADY BEATS FRALEY (New Zealand Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, July 31. In a professional heavy-weight wrestling contest before a capacity house on Saturday evening. Earl McCready beat Pat Fraley on points, after each had secured falls, Fraley in the second round with a flying toehold, and McCready in the seventh round, with a body press after three dumps.
