NIGHT CYCLISTS

Sir, —On reading various press statements, may I make a suggestion as a visitor from England. Women cyclists in England were encouraged to wear wide, patent-leather belts on their coats or dresses. Lights from cars readily picked these up at nights. It was found that black or red were the most serviceable. During the war, our lighting system was much curtailed. One factory even went as far as to supply these belts to employees, and it is said the accident rate was considerably reduced.—Yours, etc.. T J. C. HAMPTON. June 17, 1949.
