BRITISH MEAT PRODUCTION
FARMERS TO RECEIVE MORE FODDER (Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 23. The National Farmers’ Union, which recently suggested to the British Government that allocations of imported feeding stuffs should be increased by 2,250,000 tons in order to stimulate the production of pig meat, has hoW been informed by the Ministry of Agriculture that an extra allocation of 500,000 tons of pig food will be permitted over a period of 12 mohths. The allowance for farrowing sows will be increased from Bcwt to 9cwt from July 1, and the ration will be trebled from September 1. The farmers consider that the extra 500,000 tons of feeding stuffs will enable them to increase the production of pig meat by from 50,000 to 80,000 tons in 12 months. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Tom Williams), who announced the Government’s decision, said it would be impracticable to obtain an increased supply of feeding stuffs oh the sdale suggested by the Farmers* Union. Australian Badminton Team.—Seven Victorians and one Tasmanian have been chosen in an Australian badminton team which will sail for New Zealand on July 13. The members are A. C. Cutts. R. Russel, T.
