MAGISTRATE’S COURT James Bingley, aged 43, a seaman, of England, was fined £1 when he appeared before Mr C. W. Carmody, J.P., in the Magistrate’s Court at Lyttelton yesterday on a charge of casting offensive matter in Oxford street on May 21. R.S.A. Smoke Concert. A presentation of a wristlet watch to Mr C. Ball, immediate past president of the Lyttelton Returned Services’ Association. in recognition of his services as president was made by the secretary (Mr A. E. Torrens) at the annual smoke concert of the association on Saturday evening. More than 130 persons wer.e present, including representatives of the Sydenham and St. Albans sub-branches of the Returned Services’ Association. The toast ““R.S.A.” was proposed by the Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr F. G. Briggs). Personal To mark his retirement after 36 years with the staff of Kinsey and Company a farewell was held for Mr W S. Adams at Lyttelton recently. On behilf of the staff and management, Mr R. L. Reid, of Christchurch, presented Mr Adams with a bowl bag and a wallet of notes. Messrs D. G. Hollebone, managing -director, B. J. Ward, director, and J. Stanley. Lyttelton manager, spoke in appreciation of Mr Adams's long service. Mr Adams replied suitably.
