RECOVERY IN EUROPE

CONTINUED NEED OF U.S. CAPITAL (Rec. 9 p.m.) GENEVA, May 6. Europe would remain dependent on American capital for many years, said a United Nations review of European economy, issued to-day. The review, prepared by the United Nations Economic Commission for Eurone. showed that European industry took great strides forward during 1948, but that only the United States could help it to overcqme the great problems lying ahead. European industry had recovered with remarkable speed, and would soon be as highly developed as it would have been if the war had never occurred. The survey added tnat, in spite of this recovery, the general outlook was poor because of the persistent dollar shortage and the almost total absence of integration in the economic plans of the various European nations.
