VISIT TO ITALY IN MAY
PRINCESS MARGARET’S PLANS WILL STAY AT HOTELS OR PRIVATE HOUSES LONDON, April 19. Princess Margaret will go to Italy for a private visit next month. She will stay for four weeks. It will be the first visit by a member of the British Royal Family to former enemy territory since the Second World War. The Princess will visit Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, and Pisa as a private person, and will stay at hotels or with friends. She will not travel incognito. Court circles emphasised that Princess Margaret's visit would be entirely unofficial and was in no way connected with the Italian Government. She would attend no official functions. She would travel with a small suite, including a lady-in-wait-ing. It is believed that the tour is the Princess’s own idea.
