( Technicolour, which appeared to be j securely pocketed at a critical, stage of ] the race, showed a lot of speed-once she , was clear to finish second. A daughter | of Red Shadow and Marlene, which both ( have New Zealand Trotting Cups to their . credit, Technicolour should eventually , prove capable of winning in good com- • pany. D. Townley, a brother of S. Townley, was successful in the Keenan Handicap : with Bashaw, which he trains for his ■ father, R. Townley, who has been asso- : ciated with the trotting sport for many years. Bashaw, which finished third to Sandy- : etta and Concord in the Stewards’ Handicap, was allowed to pay a double-figure dividend when he won the Keenan Handicap. An outsider in Bishop’s Cleeve set the pace in the early stages of the Keenan Handicap. With nine furlongs to go, he was about eight lengths clear of My Gain, Allandale, Scotland’s Pride., Bashaw, and Encircle. Bishop’s Cleeve weakened in the back straight, and with four furlongs to go he was passed by Bashaw, Allandale, Encircle, and Scotland’s Pride. Bashaw was always master of the situation over the concluding stages, and he carried on to win comfortably from Allandale with the favourite, Encircle, in third place. A winner at the Winton Trotting Club’s meeting on December 29, Bashaw is a five-year-old gelding by Josedale Dictator from Helene Bond, which is by Worthy Bond from a Cello Sydney Wilkes mare.
