When Alabama Queen stumbled near the three furlongs post at Canterbury Park in the Second Ashbury Mixed Stakes she caused the fall of four other horses. The jockey, George Podmore. received a broken shoulder. The favourite, Shannon Rise, fell, bringing down Magdala. Perekop, and Fox Valley. Shannon Rise fractured a bone in her off knee. Attempts are being made to save her for the stud. Perekop smashed through the running rail and was badly cut above the right eye,
