BALLOTING SYSTEM

REPLY TO OWNER’S . COMPLAINT

Mr J. Anderson, of Charteris Bay, the owner of Joselito, Says in a letter to the editor of “The Press” that he nominated this mare for the Stewards’ Handicap at the Kaikoura Trotting Club’s meeting, but i was informed that the horse had been balloted out. He says that according to the club’s programme, all dual accepters should be first eliminated. Mr Anderson Claims that as there are at least 10 dual acceptors for the Stewards’ Handicap and for the Keenan Handicap, Joselito should be eligible to start. “My filly is engaged in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes and by being wrongfully eliminated from this race will have no opportunity of a race before the classic,” con'eludes Mr Anderson. “As long as there are no comprehensive iregulations governing balloting there will |be misunderstandings and individual (owners are liable to suffer hardships. It ■ would appear that until owners, through their own associations, have the matter put right, such unfortunate incidents will continue to occur.” said Mr P. J. Byrne, who is conducting the meeting for the Kaikoura Trotting Club, when the letter was referred to him. , “I have no comment to make.” said the chief stipendiary steward. Mr F. J. Beer, •when the letter was referred to him. Mr Anderson said that he telephoned Mr Beer, who replied that he was a little unfortunate. In Mr Beer’s opinion the ,olub should not have put that condition in the programme.
