WHEREABOUTS OF TOWN CLOCK

ASHBURTON DISCUSSION “A number of people have asked me what has happened to our town clock,” said Mr W. Russell at a meeting of the council of the Ashburton Chamber of Commerce last evening. “It seems to be a problem that the public are thinking about all the time.” The town clock was still at the fire brigade building, said the president (Mr H. F. McElrea). An inspection of the clock, showed that to erect a tower for it would be uneconomical.

Citizens seemed to think that the Ashburton Borough Council should do something about it. said Mr Russell. The public should be told it was not worth erecting. It was decided to write to the borough council asking the council’s intentions concerning the clock.
