MARLBOROUGH CLUB
Wairiri Girl followed up her second to Pat Review in the Maiden Trotters’ Race at the combined Christchurch Trotting Clubs’ matinee meeting at Addington on November 30 with a solid effort to finish third to Vinceremo and Rowan McCoy in the fast time of 3min 26 4-ssec from a 3min 41sec mark at the Ashburton Troting Club’s meeting on December 27. If she repeats that form, Wairiri Girl should not be extended to win the Stewards’ Handicap and the President’s Handicap at the Marlborough Trotting Club’s meeting to-day. Recent place-getters in the fields are Concord, King’s Brigade, and Silica, and they appeal as the most likely to disnute the minor places. Fabric Silk dominates discussions on the Marlborough Handicap, for which he will probably be sent out a good favourite, with Jcsedale Audubon and Gold Nip next in demand. Form shown at this meeting should be a good guide for the Nelson Trotting Club’s two-day meeting on January 29 and February 1. Horses in form include:— 11.15 a.m.—Trial Handicap: Springbok, Romantic Lady, Globe Theatre. 12.10 p.m.—Stewards’ Handicap: Wairiri Girl, Concord, Silica. 12.25 p.m—Seddon Handicap: Highland Chief, Moncrieff, Avon Hall. 1.40 p.m.—Marlborough Handicap: Fabric Silk, Josedale Audubon, Gold Nip. . 2.35 p.m—Wairau Handicap: Globe Theatre, Gay Scott, Golden Prince. 3.30 p.m.—President’s Handicap: Wairiri Girl, Concord, King’s Brigade. 4.15 p.m.—Picton Handicap: Highland Chief, David’s Pride, Sir Leonard. 5.5 p.m.—Pelorus Handicap: Chief Officer, Scotch Drift, Fabric Silk.
