SHIPMENTS OF SUGAR
VESSELS LOADING AT AUCKLAND
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 21. .Although the Colonial Sugar Refin- • ihg Company is doing its best to I alleviate the sugar famine in the i south, a shortage has also developed lin Auckland. Several grocers report that they have not had an ounce in their shops for nearly a week. One man said an order for half a ton. which he had placed with the company before Christmas, had not been ful- ■ filled.
i The Auckland manager of the sugar company (Mr A. P. Wildman) said the company had made deliveries throughout the three weeks of the holidays. Fairly substantial quantities would be delivered to grocers in the Auckland district next week. Several ships were at present loading sugar for the south, said Mr Wildman. The Karitane was expected to sail at the week-end with 1750. tons for Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff, and the Waiana was taking another 1700 tons for all of southern main ports. Sugar for Westport was being loaded on the Karepo and the Pukeko and the Kartigi would take consignments to Napier and Greymouth, respectively. _______
