CHRISTIANS AND COMMUNISTS

Sir—From the materialistic tenor of n’ Beck’s letter I assume that his is a' Socialistic philosophy, not: a Christian one. It cannot be both. The Christian philosophy acknowledges God by recognising the right, and 'duty of self-rule to be paramount. This means implicitly the strict recognition of the same rule in regard to others The Socialist, on the other hand denies God by his belief in the centralised control of individuals and his refusal thus to acknowledge their God-given rights. The Socialist places an arbitrary price on that which is priceless. By theft he places a toll on the exercise of individual liberties, and seeks to justify this by euphemis- .• references to “nationalisation, -the >aw.” and otoers.-Yours.jtc, January 21, 1949.
