STRONGMAN MINE IDLE
WORKERS CLAIM TRUCKING ALLOWANCE From Our Own Reporter GREYMOUTH. January 21. West Coast coal mines were faced with their first industrial dispute since they resumed production this vear when the Strongman mine at Nine Mile was idled to-day by a dispute. The dispute is 'based on a claim by two miners for trucking allowance. This was considered by the management to be an unreasonable claim, but it is being supported by the union. At a stop-work meeting this morning the men decided not to work until a satisfactory agreement was reached, and most of the men returned home without starting the day’s shift. Tlie secretary of the union (Mr J. Guy) stated that negotiations had already begun between the union and the management to settle the dispute. A mass meeting of the union will be held at Runanga on Sunday morning.
