TRACK WORK AT RICCARTON £' ab ® 1 -..® seven-year-old brown Solicitor General from Gold br ° ke his „ near foreleg below the fetlock when galloping at Riccarton yesterday morning and was destroyed. He had not raced since the 1945-46 season because of unsoundness, but was to have raced on the West Coast circuit. Leg ai Label was associated with Valley Gold and Leighmond in a gallop over five furlongs on the plough. Legal Label and VaHey Gold were on terms approaching the finish, when the former stumbled. He was immediately pulled up and was dismounted. He was owned by his breeder, J?’ Barr » for whom he was trained by W. Barr.
Both the trial grass and the plough provided fast footing yesterday morning, and horses with engagements on the West Coast and on the Otago circuit provided the most interest. Auckland candidates in Bruce, Coral Arc, Western Winner, Flying Sovereign, Ronald Macdonald, and Eulogize were restricted to pace work the reverse way round on the plough. Some horses with engagements at Hokitika next Saturday also worked the reverse way. • Marut, which will be raced at the Oamaru and Kurow meetings, recorded the best gallop of the morning over six furlongs. On the trial grass he was well clear of his stablemate, Excellent Flight, running the distance in lmin 14 2-ssec, the last four m 48 l-ssec. sprinted her last four furlongs m 51 l-ssec. Flying Orders was a length clear of Radar with Saga four lengths further back after covering five furlongs in lmin 1 4-ssec, the last four in 49sec. Flying Sovereign started behind the others, but had -little trouble drawing to the front in the final furlong. • Neptina sprinted four furlongs in 48 4-ssec. Magical was going easily alongside Banshee after covering five furlongs in lmin 3 i; ssec ’ the last four ln 50‘3-ssec. Maryburn, which has improved in condition recently, did pace work over a mile and a quarter, and came. over the last four furlongs in 52 l-ssec. Lorna Leigh and Musselman ran six furlongs in lmin 17 2-ssec, their last four taking 52sec. F. D. Jones’s team for Wingatui will be Musselman, Maryburn, Magical, Banshee, and Watchword. Lorna Leigh will not race until Oamaru. Palomino ran over seven furlongs in lmin 33 3-sseec, the first four in 54 2-ssec. «r C ?^? wain x w ? s goin S better than Royal Wedding at the end of six furlongs in lmin 19 l-ssec, the last four in 52 2-ssec. Competitive and Infatuate impressed by running over four furlongs in 49 4-ssec. T “ey, together with Disturbance, will race at Wingatui and Oamaru. Robin Redbreast and Trident dashed over five furlongs in lmin 3 4-ssec, the first two in 25 2-ssec. Eulogize and Sorry were together at the end of seven furlongs the reverse way in lmin 31 3-ssec, the last four in 52 4-ssec. It was a good effort on the party of Sorry, a Hokitika candidate, to run on as well as she did with the Otaio Plate winner. Blue Print pulled hard over the early stages of a six furlong gallop the reverse way with Highway, and was not going as well as her partner over the concluding stages. They ran the distance in lmin 20sec. Broie and Lord Elgin, after taking 26 2-ssec for the first two furlongs, completed five in lmin ssec. Golden Amber, which is in good order after her races at the cup meeting, ran four furlongs in 54 l-ssec, the last three in 40 l-ssec. Rebel Anne was of no use to Baikis over the final stages of five furlongs. Baikis recorded lmin 3 2-ssec, the last four in 51sec. Dispersal Sale A dispersal sale of the late Mr A. McIntosh’s racing stock will be held at Invercargill on February 11. The offering will include 13 thoroughbreds, including Beaugard, a winner at Riccarton, for whom Mr Mclntosh paid 800 guineas at the national yearling sales. Others include Lady Corsair and Gypsy Major. The sale will be conducted by Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd.
