TWO CALLS TO FIRES

Two calls to fires in Christchurch were answered yesterday. At 3.55 p.m. a motor-car owned and driven by Mr J. A. D. Sandford caught fire outside the central fire station in Lichfield street. The fire, which was attributed to a short circuit in the wiring system, was extinguished with a hand chemical appliance. Three appliances from the central brigade and the St. Albans division I were sent to the Century Theatre at 4.42 p.m. The “fire” was found, to be smoke coming from the stokehold and ' the alarm false, but justifiable. The Century Theatre suffered heavy damage by fire recently.
