DOLL FACTORY DESTROYED
FIRE AT PAEROA (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. A serious fire broke out in Paeroa shortly before 6 o’clock this evening, and a two-storey doll factory in Wharf street was destroyed. The fire raged for more than two hours. The walls of the factory collapsed and parts fell up against the Civic Hall. The brigade concentrated several leads and prevented a further spread. The factory was full of highly-inflam-mable material, and there were several minor explosions. For many years the building was used as a picture theatre and dance hall, but latterly was sub-leased to Traders’ Supplies, Ltd., of Auckland, who have used It as a doll manufacturing factory employing about 40 people. The building was insured with the London and Lancashire Insurance Company, Ltd., for £2OOO. The fittings were also insured.
