HYPNOTISM
Sir,—ln view of the increasing amount ’of mental disease , and sex crimes, etc., in our community, I would like to know if the medical profession uses or supports the use of hypnotic treatment. It seems an established fact that hypnotic suggestion can be used most successfully in treating ner--1 vous disorders. Are there any practising hypno-analysts in our city? If so, are our doctors co-operating with them? —Yours, etc., .INFORM ME. October 26, 1948. [This letter was referred to the president of the Canterbury branch of the British Medical Association (Dr. D. E. Orchard), who made the following reply: “The medical profession always supports any system of treatment which is proved good. When a hypnotist visited Christchurch recently he was given an opportunity to demonstrate his methods in the Christchurch Public Hospital. Ido not know 'of any practising hypno-analysts in i Christchurch.’!,
