N.Z. UNIVERSITIES-SJ. MEETING From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, September 24. An assurance will be given the Canterbury University College Amateur Athletic Club by the South Canterbury Sub-centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, that it is prepared to sponsor an invitation dual meeting between a team representing New Zealand universities and a team representing the South Island on the Monday after the national championship meeting in Christchurch. The annual meeting of the sub-centre this week was told that the proposal had been put before the Canterbury Centre, but was declined. It was .agreed that the meeting be held at th«e Caledonian grounds in Timaru and that amatedr cycling events be held if possible. A recommendation was made to the executive that it give favourable consideration to a proposal from the Canterbury Centre of tne New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association that the sub-centre should co-operate to establish amateur cycling in South Canterbury, in conjunction with amateur athletics. APPLICATION FOR STATUS OF CENTRE From Our Own Reporter TIMARU, September M. A further application will be made to the New Zealand Council of the Amateur Athletic Association by the South Canter* bury sub-centre to be raised to the statu# of centre. The centre's colours should be red, white, and black, and the uniform the same as that worn at present by the sub-centre’s representatives, it was gested at the annual meeting, held in TV maru this week. The name of the centre would be "MidSouth Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association." The following officers were elected:— 1 ' patron, Messrs C. W. Cameron and E. D. Mcßae; president, Mr H. C. Greene; vicepresidents, Messrs L. J. Collins, F. W.. Walker. J. M. A. Ritchie, C. N. Hamilton, A. Calder, C. Miller; secretary-trea-surer, Mr L. Waters; starter, Mr J. C. Davey; handicapper, Mr N. Ford: executive, two representatives from each club; delegates to Canterbury Centre, Messrs C. W. Cameron and L. Fox. NEW BRIGHTON CLUB It was decided to hold the opening meeting on October 19, at the annual meeting of the. New Brighton Amateur Athletic Club held recently. The following officers were elected:—patron, Mr C. A. Cooper; president, Mr L. R. Russell; vice-presidents, Messrs W. Queere and R. D. Comfort; secretary, Mr R. A. Lowe; assistant secretary, Mr R. McLean; treasurer, Mr J. P. King; club captain. Mr A. H. Wayman; field captain, Mr King; auditor, Mr E. H. Rodgers; delegates to Canterbury Centre, Messrs A. Cusack and King; committee. Misses N. Nesbitt and B. Underhay. Messis J.' T. Birch, R. H. Crosbie, J. D. Birch, >G. Bolton, Cusack. F. Alabaster, R. Ferguson, and D. Congreve. Messrs L. R. Russell, C. A. Cooper, W. Queere, and A. G. Hughes were elected life members. .
