MAORI FATALLY INJURED
STRUCK BY TAXI FATHER DIES WHEN TOLD OF ACCIDENT (P.A.) AUCKLAND September 26. A Maori died from injuries suffered when he was struck by a taxi at Marumaru yesterday. His father collapsed and died when he was informed of the accident. The man killed was Barney Kapene, aged 22, single, a shearer, of Rangiahua, and his father was Edward Kapene, aged 57, also of Rangiahua. Barney Kapene was struck by a taxi driven by his brother-in-law, Tu Beattie. The death of Edward Kapene was discovered by his wife when she returned from the hospital, where she had been called when it was realised that the young man’s life was in danger.
