FIRE IN COAL MINE
KAITANGATA’S OUTPUT CUT BY HALF SECTION SEALED AFTER SMOKE APPEARED (P.A.) DUNEDIN. September 24. Rumours that an outbreak of fire had occurred in the Kaitangata coal mine, seriously threatening the output, have been current in Dunedin The manager, of the Kaitangata Coal Company (Mr J. G. Henderson) said this evening that one section of the mine which was practically worked out had been sealed off because of the appearance of smoke. Mr Henderson said it would be a week or two before full production could be resumed, and in the meantime the output of the mine was reduced by at least half.
