N.Z. PRISONS

Sir,—The Attorney-General’s sedative answer to the Rev. G. E. Moreton would be more reassuring if he would give concrete answers to the following questions. Within the last 22 years has any impartial inquiry been held into the prison dietary by outside authorities and what was the report? Is it not true that prisoners have been transferred at the end of sentence to asylums and some held 10 and 15 years without right of Court hearing or public inquiry? Are not these prisoners’ estates seized by the Public Trustee and held for life? Are all prisoners’ estates seized by the Public Trustee? Is there not tracking down and secret reports? Is not redress refused?—Yours, etc., BE FRANK. September 13, 1948. [The Attorney-General (Mr H. G. R. Mason) had no comment to make on this letter.]
