BRITISH SCREENINGS OF U.S. FILMS
(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 1. To prevent the showing of American films as second features in British cinemas, some American producers would refuse to allow their films to be shown with British films in British cinemas, said the president of the American Motion Picture Association (Mr Eric Johnston) in London. The Americans intended to rent to British exhibitors first and second feature films as a single unit for the same programme. He said that the British industry must decide whether it wanted-a protected home market or a free world market. The American industry was not going to spend as much money as before on advertising its competitors’ products when those competitors turned and kicked them in the teeth.
