Bowden, sen., was accepted with thanks at a meeting last evening of the management committee of the Canterbury Hockey Association. The cup has been presented in memory of Mr and Mrs Bowden’s two sons, Norman and George, both former Canterbury representative hockey players, who were killed in an accident two years ago, It has been tentatively arranged that the cup be given for competition each year between the premier senior teams of Christchurch and Wellington on the lines on which the Payne trophy is conducted, and it is hoped to play the first game for the cup at Christchurch this season between Sydenham (Christchurch) and Karori (Wellington). The Buller team, which beat West Coast 3-2 in an elimination game for the Quatre Bras Cup, was disqualified for playing a man against the ruling of the Canterbury Association, under whose control the games for the cup are conducted. Before the game the Buller Association asked for permisison to play T. Eggleton. and although this was refused on the ground that he lacked the necessary residential qualifications, Eggleton played for the team. Proceeds from the match against Australia will be transferred to the jubilee ground funds, according to a decision of the committee. Reporting for the jubilee committee, Mr E. Hobson said that the funds had already reached £l2O. A report from the secondary schools’ committee, which was adopted, stated that games this season had been played under difficult conditions because the grounds used were spread all over Christchurch and only one regular umpire and few occasional umpires were available. Unless the position improved, hockey in schools would be curtailed next season, said the report. Forty-two teams had competed in six grades this season. Boys’ High School had won four grades and had tied with Technical in one grade, and West High School had won one grade, said the report. Members expressed their thanks and congratulations to Mr G. G. Graham, who has completed 21 years’ continuous service on the management committee. REPRESENTATIVE TEAMS The following matches will be played Hagley Park on Saturday, September Second Grade "A” v.
