Flying Attack made more friends when he won the Taranaki Hunt Cup on Saturday when he had his first race over country He jumped like an experienced and highly capable steeplechaser, and he is being discussed as a horse likely to go on to good class next winter. Death of Gay Malster The promising Gay Malster died at Omoto on Saturday after a hemorrhage. A four-year-old gelding by Cardsharper, Gay Malster was owned by Messrs Dalzell Bros., of Runanga, and was trained by C. J. Walsh. In his brief racing career he had won two races, and was expected to develop into a useful winner. Several good offers had been made for him, but they had been refused. Wellington Racing Club Mr H. R. H. Chalmers, a vice-presi-dent of the Wellington Racing Club, is the only nominee for the presidency of the club, the vacancy being caused through the retirement of Mr E. L. Riddiford. Mr H. P. F. Blundell has been nominated for vice-president. An election will be necessary to decide the stewards, there being eight nominees whereas five are required. Nominations are: Messrs T. B. Heath, W. A. loms, F. V. Lysons. R. J. Murphy, retiring stewards; and F. H. Bustin, A. E. Scholes and R. A. Whyte. Mixed Luck
The Foxbridge mare, Foxola, had a good record in her racing, as she won some important races in the Auckland province, including the Auckland Racing Club Handicap, but she has not had the same good fortune since she was retired to the stud. She slipped twin foals to Nizami in her first season, and last year she had a Ruthless foal, which died. It is hoped, however, that better luck will attend her now, as her Ruthless colt foaled recently, is a healthy youngster. Foxola is by Foxbridge from Aureola, by Hunting Song from the Kilboy mare, Azure Sky, tracing through Fairy Gold (dam of the Wellington Cup winner, Maioha) to the Australian-bred Sylvia, dam of the Musket horse, Martini Henry, the first son of Musket to win the Melbourne Cup, and a few days earlier he had won the Victoria Derby.
